Limerick band Animal Beats has secured No. 13 in the compilation album charts released today, “Pesky Kids” the compilation CD from the Irish Youth Music Awards has gone straight in to the top twenty on it’s first week of release. The Irish Youth Music Awards which are run by Youth Work Ireland and Garageland provide a space for hundreds of young bands from all around Ireland to rehearse, perform and record in their own community culminating in the annual awards ceremony which took pace this year in April at The Village in Dublin.
“This result shows the level of interest in this highly innovative youth project. All around Ireland now there is a space and a place for young people with a passion for music to come together and engage with each other with the prospect of taking part in a national awards process. The CD contains rock bands, rappers, solo artists and many more from all backgrounds and all walks of life. I think its an enormous achievement for a bunch of 12 to 18 year olds to have secured such a high chart placing, it’s a tribute to the quality of the acts and the hard work they put in” said Michael Mc Loughlin from Youth Work Ireland
“Anybody following the huge interest and take up of the Irish Youth Music Awards will not be surprised at this result. Local communities have responded with great enthusiasm to this project and have gotten behind their local acts. The young people involved have learnt a huge amount about music and the music industry but more importantly about teamwork and how they and their peers can make a difference. We are now starting in to the third year of the Irish Youth Music Awards with great confidence following this chart topping display” said Dermot Lambert, Director of The Irish Youth Music Awards
