City Comhairle Na Og
Limerick Youth Service and Limerick City Development Board are once again organising the annual Youth led event – Comháirle na nÓg
Comhairle na n-Og provides an opportunity for young people to discuss topics and directly affect young people. All suggestions and viewpoints on these
topics will be documented and presented by Comhairle members to various decision making bodies over the coming months.
This year the Comháirle na nÓg will be held on Wednesday, 2nd December 2009 at the Thomond Park Conference Centre.
This event is for young people aged twelve to eighteen years of age from Limerick City and will serve to:
• Promote discussion and debate on issues chosen by young people
• Select Representatives for the Dáil na nÓg, to be held in Croke Park on 5th March 2010.
• Recruit Representatives to Limerick City Youth Forum – a Forum for young people to meet, discuss issues of relevance to them and influence local
decision-makers, facilitated by Limerick Youth Service.
Themes for Comhairle na n-Og 2009
This year we have identified two issues we wish to discuss at Comhairle na n-Og. We will do our best to ensure young peoples voices are heard and that our
Comhairle will help to inform any decisions made that effect young people.
Topic 1 - Sexual Health Education
Young people involved in Comhairle na n-Og come from various schools and youth groups. And guess what, we’ve all experience different approaches to sexual
health education. We have recently conducted a survey on young people’s views on sexual health education and want to build upon this at our Comhairle AGM.
So what do you think?
-Where should young people receive accurate information?
School / home / friends / youth cafes & youth groups ?
-Do young people need more than information but a space to discuss their concerns?
-What are the areas that sexual health education should cover?

Topic 2 - Once upon a time in Limerick…
Ok so we started with Stereotyping and Young People as an idea for a topic. But we’ve decided to take a different angle on this. This topic will look at
positive images and stories of Limerick City. You will be asked to help develop a story of young person enjoying life in Limerick and all the City has to
offer. So have a think about the things you like about our City and also how these could be highlighted and shared with everyone.
Also…
We will also be facilitating a general workshop exploring young people’s values and what is important to young people today.
We will be organising interactive workshops, providing information on the danger s of binge drinking and alcohol abuse.
Finally to help highlight positive things about our city we hope to include a brief tour of the Thomond Park Stadium on the Day!
Look forward to seeing you there and hearing your Voice!
